Guided Gaol Tours

Step inside the bluestone walls of Old Melbourne Gaol and experience its dark past brought vividly to life by our expert guides.

On this 45-minute guided tour, you’ll journey through the chilling history of the Gaol and the people who once called it home—from petty thieves to Australia’s most notorious outlaw, Ned Kelly. Discover why the Gaol was built, how it operated, and what daily life was like behind bars.

Your guide will reveal gripping tales of crime, punishment, and justice in colonial Melbourne, offering insights beyond what’s available on the self-guided experience. From solitary cells to gallows stories, these tours dig deeper into the Gaol’s 19th-century past.
